Two kinds of page live here. They are not made the same way, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Record pages are built from public datasets by software. Nobody reads all of them one by one. A person picks the dataset, checks it is deep enough and current enough to be worth publishing, designs the page, and reads samples before the section goes live. Every page then passes an automated check before it ships. Where a page quotes a government record, that text is marked as quoted and left word for word. Rewriting it would falsify the record.
Articles are written and edited by a person. Every one of them.
Every figure names its dataset and the date we pulled it. Estimates get labelled as estimates. Tell us we got something wrong and we fix it, then say we did.
This site carries advertising. Some links earn us a commission. Neither changes what we write. We take no payment for coverage. No advertiser sees a piece before it publishes.
